Intro

This lesson focuses on Petruvian arms—a fundamental exercise to refine posture, alignment, and arm control. These movements lay a solid foundation for poi spinning by helping you develop graceful and coordinated arm motions.

What You’ll Learn

  • Basic Petruvian arm circles and their pathways
  • Proper posture and alignment for smooth movements
  • How to synchronize both arms in coordinated patterns
  • Transitions between Petruvian arm movements and extensions
  • Preparation for integrating poi into these foundational techniques

Things to Practice

  • Practice one arm at a time, tracing a smooth circle past your legs, nose, ear, and back of the head.
  • Ensure your posture is tall, your spine aligned, and your heart gently open without tension.
  • Synchronize both arms by starting with one going up and the other going down, meeting at the back of the head, then circling outwards together.
  • Check your alignment by observing whether your arms form a perfect "T" shape during the transitions.
  • Experiment with gentle bouncing to relax your body and identify any areas of tension or misalignment.

Skill Progression

This lesson enhances your Posture Awareness, Arm Coordination, and Body Alignment. Mastering these movements will prepare you to integrate fluid arm pathways into your poi spinning practice.
